Groupworks is dedicated to helping people to recognise their deep needs and to achieve greater satisfaction, purpose and pleasure from life. We respect the uniqueness of each person, and all our work starts by listening carefully, one-to-one, to how you see the problems and challenges you face.
Well-led small groups offer a unique opportunity to develop self-awareness, tackle challenging life situations and come together with others in a profound experience of reciprocity. Groups offer 'give and take' at every level, and the experience of reflecting with others over time is life-changing for many people.
Each person is a unique individual, and in our groups individual differences are respected and understood as valid. By encountering each others' quirks and ways of seeing things, we become increasingly comfortable with our own. We explore in depth different ways of being and relating, which over time also gives us the freedom to change, should we wish to. We can leave behind aspects of our style that no longer help us because through meeting others profoundly we have gained awareness and understanding of the alternatives open to us.
The principle of profound respect for each individual carries through into our methods. All groups include a qualified therapist, but the essence is that everyone has something to offer, to help themselves and others.
Our discipline is Group Analysis, a well-established, internationally reputed method for working with groups. It was founded by SH Foulkes in the UK and has been used as the basis for group therapeutic training throughout the UK, Europe, and many parts of the world.
Group analysis first developed as a therapy of individuals via group interaction. It focuses on the relationship between the individual and the group, emphasising the essentially social nature of human experience, and aiming at a healthier integration of the individual in her/his network of relationships. It is a democratic and interactive discipline, and has many applications in psychotherapy, training, professional development and organisational consultation.
Group analytic theory has developed over the last sixty years from a foundation blending psychoanalytic insights with gestalt, systemic and other social-scientific perspectives on healthy personal functioning and interpersonal relating. The development of group theory is still a live, dynamic process in the international group analytic community, reflected in the journal Group Analysis.
